Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is a small luxury SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz.〔(2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-class )〕 Reviews of the vehicle hit the automotive press as early as the Summer of 2015, and produced a body of knowledge about the vehicle with a somewhat commercial flavor prior to its availability to the public.〔 Some things that were noted were a relationship another Mercedes vehicle known as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a compact luxury sedan and that the name of the first GLC model in 2016 would be the GLC300.〔 That vehicle is allegedly designed with a turbo-charged four cylinder engine with displacement of 2 liters mated to a 9-speed (9 ratios of gears) transmission.〔 The vehicle is reported to have four-doors, seats for five passengers, and weigh about 4000 pounds.〔(2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class First Drive )〕 Under the vehicle naming scheme maintained by Mercedes-Benz, SUVs use the base name "GL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy. The "G" is for geländewagen (German for off-road vehicle) and alludes the long-running G-Wagen.
